Adyson Is A True Heart Stopper!

Here are some random shots of Adyson over the past couple of months. She's already starting to enjoy or at least help out with the laundry and wear "mom" shoes.

Saturday Morning Reading

After filling her tummy with some nana, kwit, french toast and milk Adyson was ready for some serious play time. After breakfast, we headed to the "playzone" to enjoy the Disney Princess ride, stick horse [Ady's favorite], her musical entertainment centers and, of course, books.

Here's Adyson and Brian reading The FARM book. It was the first time I heard her make the cow sounds. She also made the elephant sound later that day. She's getting smarter everyday.

Trick-or-Treating, 2009

Here's Adyson and Allie participating in the Halloween activities at John and Kelly's in Forney. The entire neighbor participated in trick-or-treating. Adyson was a "Nurse in Training"... her aunt Teresa, who's a labor and delivery nurse, would be proud.

Here are a couple videos of Adyson trick-or-treating and pumpkin carving.

Halloween Party at Miss Bloomingdales

Boy what a difference a year makes... in 2008 Adyson wasn't even able to stand up in her Lady Bug costume much less walk/run around like a wild child in her pumpkin outfit in '09... Adyson wasn't to sure about walking through all the classrooms and seeing the kiddos dressed up... she was more interested in doing her own thing, as usual.

Here are a few pictures of her Halloween Party and pumpkin painting during at Miss Bloomingdales on Friday, Oct. 30.

Adyson Attends Allie's First Birthday Party

Adyson spent Saturday afternoon, Oct. 24, at Allie Grubb's First Birthday Party in Forney, Texas (Brian's hometown). The two got to spend quality time together as they were the youngest ones there and the only two that had to have help in the "bounce house". Allie's actual birthday was Oct. 22, the same as Peyton's (Williams).

We also think Adyson may have gotten some good things to put on Santa's Wish List for Christmas. She had a blast in the play house, enjoyed pushing around the shopping cart(s), sitting in the "big girl chair" and loved the electric car.

Miss Allie was such a wonder host and Adyson was greatly appreciative of her "goodie bag" that included some really cute Halloween PJs, that she wore home, and lots of treats. Thank you Kelly & John.

15-month Check-up

Adyson is already showing signs of Daddy's love of writing.

Today Adyson went to visit Dr. T (Tomecko) for her 15-month check-up. She's coming off a 4-day virus about two-weeks ago but she's completely over that. Now, she's just cutting three additional teeth ... both lower jaw teeth and one more lower tooth up front (no crankiness there).

Her check-up went GREAT. She passed her vision test, ears were clear and joints were solid. She's ahead of schedule with her motor and physical skills such as being able to scribble, large vocabulary and being to sign six words.

Weight: 24.0 (50 percentile for her age, average)
Height: 32" (2'7") (90 percentile for her age. We have a tall girl!)
Head: 18" (50 percentile for her age, average)

She has really developed an interest in books and reading (or at least looking at the pictures). On her own and out of the blue, she'll walk over to her play area and pick-up a book or two and just start going through the pages and calling out the objects she recognizes, such as dog, horse, duck, Elmo, and ball.

We have received notes from school stressing that they can't get over how "smart" she is. And, she's the youngest (& tallest) in her class. We are so PROUD of her!!!

First Masterpiece

While mommy was on the phone Adyson decided to sneak off to the kitchen to entertain herself by creating her first "masterpiece" on a cabinet door. At least she's smart enough to know that was "her" cabinet... the only one she's allowed in because it has all the tupperware. Brian was proud of himself, as was I, for not freaking out when he saw it. Thankfully it came off pretty easy.

Another Big Milestone...

Well, Sunday (Sept. 27) was another big moments in Adyson's developement. She has been off the bottle, except for a bed time bottle, since she was 12-months old (she's 14 1/2 now). Adyson took a big step Sunday in telling us that she didn't need the bed time bottle anymore and just wanted to go to bed.

We were about to start rocking when Adyson looked up at me and pushed the bottle away. At that point she just laid on my shoulder for a few minutes then raised up and pointed to the crib, so I put her down for the night.

Since then bedtime hasn't been as much fun for mommy.

Leaps and Bounds...

At 14 months old Adyson is really taking off physically and mentally. She's nearly running around the house and this past weekend, she shocked both of us by starting to sign the words "please" and "more". They're not perfect but she gets her message across. Now, she knows five sign language words: all done, hungry, milk, please and more. Next, will hopefully be "thank you". We're so proud of her.

Just as we spent weeks on teaching Adyson these three words, she picks up on some of the funniest things such as kicking her feet up on the coffee table, using Brian's BBQ brush as a broom and persuading us to push and pull her around on her Disney Princess Ride.

Adyson's favorite place to sit in the kitchen.

Last Day at Primrose_8-7-09

The following are photos of Adyson's last days at Primrose. She will miss her friends dearly, especially Mrs. Brenda (Love) the Director and Mrs. Shirley, Assistant Director.

Change is Coming...

August will bring lots of changes at El Rancho Davis. The biggest involves Adyson’s school. After an exciting year at Primrose, Ady will move to Miss Bloomingdale’s Academy in the Las Colinas area (closer to Debbie's work). Her last day at Primrose is Aug. 7, and her first day at the new school is Aug. 10.

We simply cannot express how thankful we are for the staff at Primrose. They took Ady in and made her their little mascot. Brenda, Shirley, Miss Mercy, Miss Emila, Miss Charlene and Miss Kristin have all had a huge impact on our's and Ady’s young life and for that we are forever grateful.

Brian has some news as well. After a decade of sports reporting, Brian left The Dallas Morning News to start a new career at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, one of the nation’s biggest investment firms. His last day at the paper was July 31. He begins at MSSB on Aug. 17. Hopefully this job change leads to more stability, because the newspaper business is simply clinging to an unsustainable business model.

We are proud of both Brian's and Adyson's courage it will take through these transitions.

As always Adyson continues to make us laugh daily. Here she’s playing with mommy cell phone while chillin’ beside our bed.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADYSON!!!

After 364 days full of diaper changes, 3 a.m. feedings and lots of TLC, we finally reached a major milestone in Adyson’s life -- her 1st birthday! One can only imagine how we never thought this day would come. What’s odd is that a few people told us not to go too overboard with planning and whatnot, because the actual birthday party is more for the parents instead of the child. And boy were they right.

About 25 people crammed into El Rancho Davis from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the 11th. This included all of Brian’s immediate family and several of our close friends. Thank goodness for that (still relatively) new air conditioning unit. Brian cooked hamburgers and hot dogs out on the patio, and Debbie entertained inside and made sure everyone generally had a great time.

Of course, Ady was the center of attention when it was time for the cake. Deb got Ady a neat cake in the shape of flip-flops. She also got a half-sheet cake for everyone else. We put Adyson in the middle of the kitchen in her high chair and just let her go to town on those flip-flops! Next thing we knew, Ady had pink icing all over her face, hands and hair. What’s the best way to clean up? How about some swimming time? Ady, Brady and Breleigh all put their swimsuits on and went in the backyard for some time in the Mushroom Pool.

And as one might expect, Ady got some great presents. Mommy and Daddy got her several new outfits and an oversized block that played multiple children’s songs. She got several new books and a Disney-themed princess car. Great stuff!

All in all, Ady had a fantastic time for her 1st birthday. Debbie and Brian sure did. We all made it one year without going crazy. Many, many, many more birthdays to come.

Five BIRTHDAY VIDEOS can be view in the top right hand column.

Adyson's 11-month Photo Shoot

We spent Sunday (June 14) at the Dallas Arts Museum. While there, we decided to try and make it Adyson's 11-month photo shoot. However, the sun wasn't cooperating with us on some of the pictures, but she's cute nevertheless.

The next photo shoot will be her 1-year birthday!

Happy Birthday, Ady! (One month early)

Yes, it's a tad early. But Debbie, Brian and Ady all traveled to Kentucky for a mini vacation and to attend her sister Beth's high school graduation. It was a great opportunity for Debbie's family to celebrate Adyson's first birthday.

As you can probably guess, it was a fun time had by all. We stayed on a houseboat from Hendricks Creek Resort out on Dale Hollow Lake. Ady had her own lifejacket, although she never got in the water. She was quite skeptical of the whole birthday cake scene at first. But once she realized the cake was essentially a Baby Red Bull, she went crazy.

Ravioli Please...

Progress Is Grand
In 10-months Adyson has gone from drinking two ounces of milk to eating chicken, green beans, carrots, bread and strawberries at one meal. By far, the most entertaining meal has been raviolis. I don’t know who enjoyed it the most Brian or Adyson. At the end, she had it ALL over her face, in her eyebrows, in her hair, just everywhere. So far there’s really isn’t anything she doesn’t like to eat. Without question, she’s our kid! However, she’s not a big drinker of anything except her milk and, in seven weeks, Adyson will be drinking whole milk. No more formula!!!

Up To Six Teeth
While I was gone to Tulsa for the C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Adyson decided to get four upper teeth. I saw the buds before I left town on Wednesday (May 13) and by Sunday (17) I could see the whites of all four! She’s has had very little trouble with teething, so far. Teething Tablets are great things to have on hand.

Bath Time Changes
Boy has bath time changed since the first time I gave her one. Not only were we both scared to death, we just wanted it over with. Now, I just sit back and watch her splash around in our bath tub. She plays for about 5-10 minutes with her duckies and other toys before we get down to business.

Standing Up
Go figure of all places for her to stand-up by herself for the first time would be the BATH TUB. Yes, the bath tub. I was shocked but didn’t want to make any sudden moves in fear of starling her and her falling. She was awesome! She stood for about 3-5 seconds before gracefully sitting down in the tub. Now it is almost an everyday occurrence. She’s seems more confident in standing when she’s in the tub, maybe it has something to do with the watch – who knows.

There's sand in my diaper!

Adyson's first vacation had a working component to it, too. Debbie covered the C-USA tennis and golf championships after our two-day journey to the zoo, beach and Kennedy Space Center.

Adyson was great at the tennis championships. At the UCF tennis center, they had a sand beach volleyball court. So we thought it would be great to see if Ady would like the sand. When we were on the beach, she hated it! But maybe she just needed to get used to it. So when Debbie's friend, Danielle, came down to meet us for dinner one night, we all went out to the sand beach court.

This time, Ady loved it! She plopped down in the sand and buried her feet. Next thing you know, we had sand in our hair, our fingers, our mouth and of course our diaper. That's not exactly a pretty sight when you head out to dinner just an hour later.

The tennis championships were in Orlando, Fla. But the golf championships were out in the suburbs. We all stayed in Mount Dora, Fla. That sounds like Egypt initially, but it turns out it's a quaint little place. We somehow spent $50 at Chili's in Mount Dora, if you can believe that.

Each day in Mount Dora, Debbie was up and out the door long before 7 a.m. So Brian and Ady just slept in. Well, they slept until 7:01 a.m. That's when Ady was up wanting a bottle. She took an hour-long nap after the bottle, but Ady and Brian were basically out the hotel door by noon each day.

At the golf course, Ady crawled around the clubhouse with abandon. It's hard to keep a baby quiet at a golf course, you know? But she was great. Once the tournament was over on Tuesday afternoon, we loaded up and drove back to the Orlando airport. No sense in getting up early for a 40-minute drive down to the airport when you can have just a 4-minute drive, right? So Adyson got to stay at what Brian thought was the biggest Courtyard he's ever seen.

On the flight home, the three of us crashed the Southwest plane and had the middle seat all open. Ady slept from Orlando to New Orleans. But she was all over the place on the flight to Dallas. All in all, she had a great time on her first vacation. No sun burns, a trip to the beach and lots of memories (at least for Mom and Dad, anyway).

FOUR STATES, FOUR DAYS

How impressive is this? For four-straight days, Ms. Adyson woke up in four different states. She was at Debbie’s mom and dad’s on house in Kentucky on April 11, prior to spending the night in Nashville, Tenn., on April 12 before returning to Dallas, Texas, on April 13, only to land in Orlando, Florida on April 14 and she was absolutely fabulous! Oh, she was also cutting her first tooth on top. Mom and dad were extremely impressed and very proud of their little girl.

Adyson's First Vacation: Orlando, Florida-April 2009

Just after her 9-month birthday, it was time to take Adyson on her first vacation. Well, actually Debbie was assigned to handle the C-USA tennis and golf championships in Orlando. But why shouldn't we parlay this into a full-blown junket, right?

The first day was just plain awful. We were all up at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, just one day after returning home from Kentucky. We got to the airport with no problems, and we actually made it to Orlando (after stopping in Houston) with practically nothing to complain about. That's when the real fun began.

Deb thought it was going to be smooth sailing at the rental car counter. Instead, she drew a guy who wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Making matters worse, Budget didn't have a single car to rent out. That's what they told her anyway. "Just sit down and we'll call your name when it's ready." Yeah, right. More than an hour later, we got in line at some place called E-Z Rental (what? Acme Rental wasn't available?). We got a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder for the same price as the whatever car Budget was going to give us. Finally, we were on our way.

By this time, we were starving. Gotta eat something, and finally we decided on McDonald's. Nothing big happened there, except for the fact BD almost ran over the Brevard County sheriff in the drive-thru line!

By nightfall, we realized that it had been almost two (or three) days since Adyson had a decent bowel movement. So we had to stop at CVS to get some baby constipation medicine (and no, it wasn't something you give orally). About an hour later, it was flowing down there like you wouldn't believe. She probably went about five times in the next 12 hours.

On Day 2, we ate brunch at a place called The Omelet Station. Not bad. Then, it was off to the Kennedy Space Center. Lots of great stuff to see with the Apollo space program and whatnot. And then we stopped at a beach in Cocoa Beach, Fl. The video (which will be uploaded soon) basically tells it all. Ady was terrified of the water once she felt how cold it was.

A quick trip to Kentucky

Debbie got a strange phone call the week before Easter and learned that her father, Terry, was in the hospital in Burkesville, Ky. There was only one proper thing to do -- load up, jump on a plane and head to the Bluegrass.

Forget about medicine and some pharmaceutical voodoo. Debbie knew the best medicine anyone could receive was to get a surprise visit from their granddaughter. Once we landed in Nashville and drove to Kentucky, we busted into Terry's hospital room and he bolted straight up out of bed. Debbie didn't tell anyone that we were coming in, so the entire family was shocked that we could make a surprise visit on such short notice.

The best thing about the entire trip was that Terry's condition improved almost overnight, and he was released on Saturday. The second best thing was that Ady got to spend Easter in Kentucky with all of Debbie's family, who doesn't get to see her that much over the course of the year.

Adyson Attended Her First NCAA Women's Basketball Championship

Debbie spent the second weekend of the NCAA Women's Tournament in Oklahoma City. Since she didn't want to be alone, Brian and Adyson tagged along. So Ady got to attend her first NCAA event. Most of the photos came on the open practice day before the regional started.

Ady was a total trooper (and so was Daddy). She sat in Brian's lap the entire first game of the regional semifinals between Purdue and Rutgers. That's when both Ady and Brian got on ESPN! He saw them on a monitor when the network was coming back from a commercial break. Ady was turned backward when the camera was on. Daddy knew he couldn't jerk her around; that wouldn't look good on national TV. But he slowly turned her around and waived to the cameras. Both Brian and Debbie got a ton of text messages after the fact from people watching the game at home.

Ady was fine between games, but after the first half of the Oklahoma-Pittsburgh game, she got a little cranky. So Ady and Brian went and chilled inside the wives' lounge at Ford Center -- where the Oklahoma City Thunder normally play.

During the off day, we all strolled through Bricktown. Ady got her picture taken in front of Toby Keith's restaurant and she got to eat at Marble Slab. (Blame Mommy for that one.) Overall, she was a big hit with the players and the NCAA officials. She slept like a champ in the hotel crib, if you can believe that. Still, it turns out even 8-month-old babies get cabin fever after being trapped in a hotel room after a few days, too.

Adyson's 8-months old

Adyson is now 8-months old! However, her becoming more mobile has made our photo shoots much more challenging. Hopefully the above slideshow expresses how much she has changed in a month and what a happy baby she is.

Ady continues to make her mommy and daddy very, very happy. The following are random "moments."

Most Frustrating: Adyson being sent home from daycare after a fever spike (higher than 100.0) due to teething. This has happened the last two times I've gone out of town.

Most Satisfying: Adyson sleeping 10-12 hours a night.

Most Impressive: Watching Adyson pull herself up while balancing on one foot. She refused to take her left foot off of her musical bunny.

Most Sweetest: Giving her daddy morning kisses.

Most Proudest: Hearing her say ma-ma for the first time (even though I know she wasn't calling out to me).

Most Special: Adyson getting a Rockin' Horse that the late-Granddaddy Rupe made in the 1980s.

Most Interesting: Waiting to see how many cartons of food we have to open to find something Adyson wants to eat. Some days its veggies, others its fruits, while every once in awhile she doesn't want anything other than her bottle.

Most Difficult: Giving Adyson a bath in our bath tub.

Most Shocking: How fast Adyson's finger nails grow and how sharp they are.

Most Looking Forward to: Seeing Adyson take her first step.

Play Baby Play!

For Adyson's eight-month old birthday, Brian and I moved our huge dinning table to the back of the house, so she could have a nice and safe play area. When she got home from daycare we all three played for hours or until she had to go to bed.

We also have some ABC-123 mates headed our way. This will provide a much softer landing and they will help with her learning her ABCs and 123s.

New photos will be uploaded next week as she turned 8-months old on Wednesday.

The following video is of her checking out her new playground. It stopped at 10 minutes because that's all YouTube will allow a customer to upload. This video was actually 11:30.

This video is of Adyson and Brian playing.

Absence Does Make the Heart Grow Founder

Six days away from Adyson (and Brian) was much tougher than I expected. Even though I was slammed with working the C-USA women's basketball championship (M3-8) in New Orleans, I would find myself thinking/missing Adyson's smile, laugh and her incredibly frustrating ability to flip on the changing table. While I was gone, she started crawling on all four and can really motor around now. I went to the kitchen to wash out her bottle only to turn around to see her turning the corner to come find me. That was pretty awesome to see her crawling toward me. She also started saying ba-ba and ya-ya as well as standing up in her crib and pulling herself up on the coffee table. I think it’s just a matter of weeks before she starts walking.

I have to give props to Brian. He did a fabulous job with her. He’s an incredible dad. But, he would be the first to admit he was happy to see me Sunday night. He survived two high fever calls from Primrose (daycare) and the Terrell Owens being cut from the Cowboys all within 48 hours of each other.

The above photo is from a day that Adyson had a fever at daycare and was sent home. Brian took her pants off hoping it would cool her off. We think it’s because she's cutting more teeth, which is making her temperature spike at random times. Who knows?

She is still an incredible little girl who is currently sleeping on my chest as I type one handed.

She'll be 8 months old on the 11th... time to start thinking about another photo shoot!

Rock-n-Rollin'

Boy has the past two weeks been filled with tons of surprises and awww moments.

First, on February 1 Adyson got her first tooth and four days later came her second. She was fabulous through both, very, very little fussiness. Brian was the first to notice them coming in. The following is the only photo we currently have of her first "teeth".

Days after her second tooth she started military crawling. However, we found out about this through Ms. Mercy at Primrose (her daycare). That hurt but at least they told me (I guess). We actually witness her first military crawl at our friend Wendee's house in Oklahoma City on Feb. 13. Here’s our first video of her crawling….

The first “true” awww moment for me was when I got up at 6:30 a.m. Monday to check on her only to find her sitting up in her crib. I was so excited. I ran back to our bedroom to grab Brian so he could see her. He probably didn't appreciate me pushing him out of bed, but oh well. :-)

She was so, so cute and what a sweet moment for us.

Happy 7-month Birthday Adyson!

Adyson Milestone Updates

Adyson has just gone through a tremendous January as she is learning, changing and growing every day. She continues to bring a tremendous amount of joy to our life.

RECENT MILESTONES:
^ She now has two teeth in the center of her lower jaw.

^ She's eating two servings of food a day (morning oatmeal and a veggie in the evening)

^ She's on the verge of crawling but for the meantime, we’ll continue to get our laughs out of watching her do 360’s on the floor.

^ She's flipping from tummy-to-back and back-to-tummy like a pancake.

^ We dropped the crib mattress to the lowest level and took down the mobile.

^ She's moved to the big bath tub, which is much more of a challenge for mommy.

^ She's found her hair and now we often find her running her hands across the top of her head or grabbing a handful of her thin cute reddish hair to feel it.

^ Her hand and eye coordination has improved greatly over the last few weeks as she's picking things up single handily and moving items from one hand to the other. Brian saw her pick up her pacifier while half-asleep and put it back in her mouth. However, we are still trying to get her to hold her own bottle.

^ She can balance her own body weight on just about any surface and has shown great interest in standing up on her own.

^ She’s almost out of her bouncy. We actually have to buckle her in now because she will pull herself up to the top of it so she can stand up. She'll also lean over the sides to try to touch the floor.

^ She gets a big kick out of her exersaucer as she’s starting to bounce around and figure things out.

^ She definitely knows her face, and ours, in the mirror. Sometimes she’ll kiss herself in the mirror.

ADYSON SIX-MONTH CHECK-UP
Adyson went to see Dr. Tomeko for her six-month check-up on Jan. 28 (actually two-weeks after she turned six-month old). She weights 16.8 pounds, is 27.5 inches long and her head is 16.5 inches round.

Dr. Tomeko gave Adyson a seal of approval and encouraged us to start feeding her level one and two foods one or twice daily.

Adyson meets George W. Bush, makes TV history

Debbie and I thought it would be fun to take Ady down to Waco on Wednesday night to see No. 2 Oklahoma square off against No. 4 Baylor in women's basketball. She'd been to some SMU games before, but this was her first Big 12 matchup.

When we arrived at the Ferrell Center, we noticed that there was a heightened buzz in the arena. Turns out, the place was crawling with Secret Service! Our nation's 43rd president, W, was in the house. George and Laura stopped in to see the Lady Bears.

Prior to the game, Deb took Ady back to the OU locker room to meet the coaches. And before they could leave, a rush of security people stormed into the area. Then, here comes W, staring Debbie right in the face.

"Who's that little one?," Bush asked Debbie.

Adyson simply buried her head into Mom's chest. Our 6-month-old was either blushing, embarrassed or simply didn't know how to react to meeting the former Leader of the Free World. When Debbie returned to the media room and told Brian this story, he went wild and said, "Why didn't you get a picture?" Oh well.

Adyson got plenty of face time on TV early in the second half, though. A cameraman for SoonerVision turned around and got a close-up of Adyson and Brian on press row. Brian helped Ady do "O-U" with her arms for everyone back in Norman and Oklahoma City to see.

OU won a terrific game 56-51, by the way. Of course, what should you expect from the best rivalry in Big 12 women's basketball?

HAPPY 6-month BIRTHDAY ADYSON!!

Our little girl is growing up so, so fast right now. For instance, she started sitting up in her bath tub by herself this week and started eating her fourth different kind of food (she's had rice cereal [not Rice Crispies], oatmeal, apple sauce, and sweet potatoes). But, the one I enjoy most is that Adyson will now lay her head on our shoulders when she's tied and will reach out her arms when she sees us. Adyson also gives out kisses now by putting her mouth over our nose (funny, sweet and gross).

For her birthday, she got to eat sweet potatoes in the "big girl" chair for the first time.

HAPPY 6-MONTH BIRTHDAY!... Or as Brian perfers to say, "She's a half-year old."

First Family Pics of 2009

After several failed attempts to take a "family" photo over the holidays, we were able to pull it off the first week of January thanks to Ian Halperin (the photographer & family friend).

Enjoy!

Adyson Moves On To Applesauce

After several weeks of being harassed by Brian to give Adyson "real food", something other than rice cereal, I gave in. Ms. Adyson had her first bits of applesauce today, and loved it! She's growing and changing daily and we are loving every minute of, except when she wants to be held every minute (just kiddin').

Adyson wants to wish Ma a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! (Debbie's mom, Barbara Long)
